Actor and businesswoman Shilpa Shetty Kundra has spoken out for the first time amid the financial controversy linked to her and husband Raj Kundra, firmly rejecting any suggestion of misconduct. In a carefully worded personal statement, Shilpa expressed sorrow over what she described as an unfair attempt to connect her to a matter she says she had no role in.
Addressing the issue directly, Shilpa clarified that her involvement with the company in question was purely non-executive in nature. She stressed that she held no responsibility for the firm’s operations, financial management, policy decisions, or legal authorisations. According to her, her professional engagement was limited to endorsing products for a home shopping platform—an arrangement similar to that of many other public figures—and she noted that dues related to those endorsements have yet to be cleared.
The controversy centres on a ₹60-crore criminal breach of trust case linked to the now-defunct Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, where both Shilpa and Raj Kundra were named as directors. The case, currently under investigation by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing, also includes cheating charges following a complaint by a businessman who claims losses in a loan-cum-investment transaction.
In her statement, Shilpa disclosed that her family had themselves extended loans amounting to nearly ₹20 crore to the company—funds that remain unpaid to date. She questioned the timing and legal basis of the allegations, highlighting that attempts to hold her criminally accountable surfaced almost nine years later, which she described as contrary to established legal principles.
Shilpa also voiced concern over the repeated public focus on her name, calling it emotionally draining and unjustified. She pointed out that such allegations, when repeatedly circulated without substantiated facts, can cause long-term harm to an individual’s dignity, credibility, and public standing—especially for women.
Ending her statement with a philosophical reflection, Shilpa quoted the Bhagavad Gita, underlining the moral duty to stand against injustice. She confirmed that a petition seeking to quash the case has already been filed before the Bombay High Court, and reiterated her confidence in the legal system as she prepares to pursue all appropriate remedies to protect her rights and reputation.
