Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who heads the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, met Khaled El Enany, the Director General of UNESCO, during the 56th Annual World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 19 to 23.
The meeting was also attended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, along with UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs His Excellency Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, and other senior officials representing both parties.
This dialogue was part of the UAE's proactive involvement in the World Economic Forum, a leading platform that unites world leaders, policymakers, and experts to tackle economic challenges and champion international collaboration.
During their discussions, Her Highness emphasized that the UAE's goals for education, culture, knowledge, and heritage align closely with UNESCO’s objectives. She underscored that these domains are crucial for sustainable development, enhancing national identity, social stability, and fostering inter-nation dialogue.
The meeting also addressed UNESCO's mission in protecting global heritage, nurturing cultural industries, and promoting education and scientific inquiry. Her Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to further cooperating with UNESCO, particularly in cultural policy development and knowledge-based initiatives both regionally and globally.
Key priorities discussed included the preservation of both tangible and intangible heritage, empowering communities through education, and strengthening the cultural role in broad-based development.
Additionally, both parties acknowledged the necessity for enhanced regional and international collaboration given the swiftly evolving global landscape. They concurred on the essential part culture and education play in fostering mutual understanding and supporting sustainable development across the globe.
