Sheikh Sultan Reviews Kalba University’s Strategic Vision

Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah, conducted an important meeting with the University of Kalba Board of Trustees at the institution's headquarters on Monday.

Academic Progress Acknowledged

In his address, His Highness commended the notable strides made by the University of Kalba in recent times. He recognized the institution's accomplishments, its continuous development, and its expanding collaborations. His appreciation extended to the leadership, board members, and committees for their unwavering commitment to the enhancement of the university.

Emphasis on Specialized Education

Discussing the evolution of higher education in the emirate, the Ruler noted the foundational roles of the University of Sharjah and the American University of Sharjah. He stressed the necessity of establishing specialized universities across various localities, such as sports science in Kalba, marine sciences in Khorfakkan, and agricultural sciences in Al Dhaid, to cater to community needs.

Approval of Five-Year Plan

The Board sanctioned the five-year strategic plan for the University of Kalba for the period 2026–2031, which focuses on:

  • Enhancing institutional performance and sustainability

  • Fostering research and innovation

  • Boosting student employability

  • Broadening global partnerships

  • Encouraging digital transformation and lifelong learning

  • Advancing community engagement and well-being

New Leaders Appointed

The Board also introduced Dr George Nassis as the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, alongside new deans for the Colleges of Business Administration and Computing and Intelligent Systems.

New Academic Programs Initiated

A new biology program, emphasizing the examination of living organisms, was approved. The Board also reviewed accreditation updates for various proposed Bachelor of Science programs, including:

  • Sports Rehabilitation

  • Sports Nutrition and Health Wellness

  • Esports and Interactive Technologies

  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Science

Two new specialized tracks under the Physical Education and Sports Sciences program were also launched:

  • Physical Education

  • Sports Coaching and Management

Achievements Highlighted

Dr Najwa Al Hosani, the Chancellor, presented significant achievements from recent academic periods, showcasing progress in education, research, community service, and digital initiatives.

The meeting concluded with committee reports, including academic, financial, audit, and development areas, and several recommendations were accepted to foster the university's future progress.

Student Showcase

Alongside the meeting, His Highness toured a student exhibition displaying accomplishments in sports, research, literature, and academics, as well as participation in an international sports science conference in Switzerland.
