Sheikh Mohammed Explores Dubai's Largest Dates Factory

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured Al Barakah Dates Factory, recognized as the world’s largest privately-owned dates processing facility, situated in the heart of Dubai Industrial City.

Spanning over 800,000 square feet, the factory boasts a remarkable annual output capacity of 100,000 tonnes, establishing its prominence in the date processing and packaging sector worldwide.

During the visit, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the UAE's ambition to be a global leader in progressive food industries. He highlighted the nation’s commitment to innovation, robust production frameworks, and boosting the competitiveness of local products.

He pointed out that the dates industry exemplifies the UAE's evolution from agricultural roots to a thriving, modern, high-value sector that significantly bolsters economic development and strengthens food security.

Sheikh Mohammed further stated that the UAE consistently invests in vital sectors like food production to enhance operational efficiency, integrate cutting-edge technologies, and broaden its reach in international markets.

He affirmed that the dates industry is integral to the UAE’s cultural identity and heritage. Its growth is a testament to the nation’s aspirations for sustainable development. He also highlighted charitable initiatives within the sector aimed at combating malnutrition and promoting global food security.

Accompanied by Malek Al Malek, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by the factory’s founder Saleem Mohammed and Managing Director Yousuf Saleem Mohammed on the operational processes, packaging solutions, and diverse product offerings.

The factory's products reach 97 countries, with significant markets in the US, UK, and Europe.

Dubai Industrial City, which opened in 2004, is home to over 350 factories and more than 17,000 employees, strategically located near key logistics hubs such as Jebel Ali Port, Al Maktoum International Airport, and the freight terminal of Etihad Rail.

This factory exemplifies a successful private enterprise within the food sector. Founded by Saleem Mohammed, his journey in Dubai commenced in 1983, followed by his foray into dates trading and processing in the 1990s.
