President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has celebrated the opening of the Future Games Abu Dhabi 2025, taking place from December 18 to 23 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The ceremony was graced by His Excellency Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, among various prominent officials and attendees. Sheikh Mohamed expressed his best wishes to all participants for their success in this global sporting spectacle.
Sheikh Mohamed emphasized that hosting this event positions the UAE as a prominent center for innovation and progressive sports. He underscored the integration of traditional athletic endeavors with cutting-edge technology, offering a unique sporting experience aimed at the next generation. Additionally, he noted that the UAE is a nurturing platform where youth from across the globe can gather, share ideas, and engage in friendly competitions.
The inauguration was honored by the presence of several UAE dignitaries, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Sheikh Zayed bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, along with various ministers and international delegates. Notable guests also included Her Excellency Tatyana Golikova, the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, among many other esteemed figures.
Over 850 athletes from 60+ countries are participating in this year’s Future Games, which seamlessly merges live athletics with digital gaming to create hybrid contests that challenge both physical prowess and digital expertise. This edition showcases a remarkably diverse and competitive array of athletes, illustrating the convergence of modern sports with technology.
The launching ceremony featured the UAE national anthem, captivating visual displays, and storytelling segments that honored the athletes and their narratives. Cutting-edge technologies were employed throughout to embody the themes of future sports and innovation.
In his address, His Excellency Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai accentuated the UAE’s commitment to youth empowerment and skill development for the future. He articulated that the Future Games symbolize more than just athletic competition, reflecting contemporary youth's lifestyles and competitions across both physical and digital realms. By organizing this event, Abu Dhabi reaffirms its role as a pivotal global hub for hybrid sports and impactful innovation.
