Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan has examined the ongoing initiatives aimed at safeguarding groundwater resources and reinforcing water security within the Al Ain Region. The objective revolves around optimizing water usage, integrating advanced irrigation techniques, and increasing the reuse of treated water for industrial applications.

This review occurred during a session with a delegation from the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), led by Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri. The dialogue revolved around current and forthcoming projects designed to maintain groundwater supplies, enhance emergency response protocols, and bolster monitoring efforts to avert depletion and contamination.

In the meeting, Sheikh Hazza emphasized the critical need to reconcile development objectives with ecological sustainability. He advocated for innovative strategies and stronger community collaborations to foster responsible water utilization and secure enduring water resources, aligning with the UAE’s vision for sustainability.

The officials also deliberated on regulations to manage groundwater extraction and curb unauthorized well drilling, particularly on agricultural lands. These initiatives aim to protect water reserves and encourage sustainable farming methods. Programs to raise awareness and provide incentives for farmers and livestock owners about the dangers of excessive water withdrawal are currently underway.

The delegation outlined EAD’s strategic priorities from 2026 to 2030, focusing on specialized initiatives for natural resource protection, enhancement of water security, and ecosystem sustainability in the Al Ain Region.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the EAD team extended their gratitude to Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed for his unyielding support and reiterated their dedication to environmental conservation and sustainable resource management for the future.

Prominent officials, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Engineer Faisal Ali Al Hammadi, also participated in this session.
