Sheikh Hamdan Explores Jebel Ali Port, Highlights Trade and Rail Developments

Dubai's Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recently toured Jebel Ali Port, managed by DP World, to evaluate its operational capabilities and trade outcomes.

During his visit, Sheikh Hamdan was informed about the port's robust operational metrics and its expanding multimodal logistics framework, which now includes enhanced road and rail connections. In just two months, DP World successfully processed almost 200,000 TEUs via regional trucking and rail routes, underscoring supply chain resilience.

He commended the teams for achieving remarkable operational efficiency while ensuring seamless global trade through one of the world's foremost maritime centers. The Crown Prince emphasized that Dubai's trade achievements stem from careful strategic planning, superior infrastructure, and its capability to link diverse markets across the globe.

Highlighting the port's significance, he noted that Jebel Ali Port has been integral to Dubai's economic expansion for nearly half a century, backing both regional and worldwide supply chains while maintaining steady trade flow under any circumstances.

The Crown Prince reiterated Dubai’s ongoing commitment to enhance multimodal connectivity and invest in state-of-the-art infrastructure to bolster supply chain efficiency and reaffirm its status as a global trade nexus.

Key Facilities Reviewed

During his exploration, Sheikh Hamdan inspected three key facilities:

  • Jebel Ali Rail Terminal, which integrates the port with the UAE’s national rail network, boasting a capacity of 800,000 TEUs each year, with plans for future expansion to 1.6 million TEUs.

  • BOXBAY, an automated storage system designed to boost port capacity smartly.

  • The Terminal 2 operations control room, a fundamental monitoring hub at the port.

The rail terminal currently facilitates up to eight daily services, enhancing cargo transit and promoting stronger integration within multimodal logistics.

Strategic Importance of Jebel Ali Port

Together, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and Jebel Ali Port provide a major logistics and industrial base, accommodating around 12,000 enterprises in sectors including manufacturing, logistics, retail, healthcare, automotive, and food.
