H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council (DMC), led a meeting to assess the Council’s strategic goals and key performance indicators for the media sector in Dubai. The discussion also covered Dubai Media Incorporated’s (DMI) strategy on digital transformation, aligning it with the broader development agenda envisioned by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
During this meeting, Sheikh Ahmed pointed out that the media sector has significant potential to significantly boost its contribution to Dubai’s economic growth. He acknowledged the critical role the sector can have in meeting the objectives outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors to foster a supportive environment under the principles of good governance.
In this context, Sheikh Ahmed directed the Council to aim for a 3% contribution of the media sector to Dubai's GDP by 2033, up from the current 1.4%. He underscored the need for innovation in media projects, investment in young Emirati talent, and the creation of a nurturing environment for quality content that reinforces Dubai’s global stature.
Highlighting the urgency of advancing digital transformation in media, Sheikh Ahmed articulated that this sector is vital for elevating awareness, backing Dubai’s futuristic plans, and enhancing its global standing. This entails developing innovative tools and solutions that meet not just local but also international technological standards.
Throughout the meeting, Sheikh Ahmed reviewed performance indicators such as the increase in media exports and the formation of new film and gaming committees, all aimed at attracting foreign investments. He also focused on enhancing local content production, bolstering private media businesses, expanding talent incentives, and improving strategic communications to broaden Dubai’s digital outreach.
Mona Al Marri, the Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of DMC, noted that the transition of regulatory oversight to the Council under Law No. 29 of 2024 has yielded positive outcomes. This development has empowered the Council to effectively implement media development initiatives, ensuring they align with global trends and bolstering competitiveness.
Nehal Badri, Secretary General of DMC, shared that in 2025, the Council would extend its international scope by collaborating with top academic institutions to influence media policies and prepare the next generation of talent. Initiatives included the inaugural Dubai Film and Games Forum and the creation of the Dubai Film Development Committee and Dubai Gaming Committee. New talent programs like the Media Leadership Programme and Emirati Media Talent Pledge have also been introduced.
Sheikh Ahmed approved DMI’s comprehensive digital strategy and evaluated advancements in ongoing digital initiatives, such as the innovative “Awaan” television platform. This strategy is centered on high-quality content, original productions, partnerships with tech giants, and insights into global markets, aiming to sharpen Dubai Media’s digital identity and tap into youth-centric storytelling and emerging formats like podcasts.
The meeting featured members from DMI’s Youth Council for Dubai Media, established to cultivate young Emirati media leaders in support of the National Youth Agenda 2031. Sheikh Ahmed also interacted with participants of the DMI programs such as the ‘Media Pioneer Programme – Emirati Photographer’ and the ‘Leaders Diploma Program,’ aimed at training national media professionals based on global standards.
The meeting reinforced Dubai’s dedication to enhancing its media sector, fostering innovation, nurturing talent, and amplifying its influence both locally and globally.
