In a move aimed at improving its transportation infrastructure, Sharjah is set to receive a substantial upgrade to its road network following the approval of two key development initiatives by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Ruler of Sharjah.
The first initiative involves upgrading a 5-kilometre section of the Sharjah Ring Road located near the Etihad Rail station, with an investment of AED 90 million. This project is designed to alleviate congestion on Mleiha Road, which has been experiencing increased traffic due to demographic growth and new urban developments in nearby areas. Additionally, the University City Bridge will be expanded to offer four lanes—two lanes in each direction—facilitating better traffic flow toward Rakan Bridge.
The second initiative is centered around the construction of a new bridge adjacent to the Martyrs' Monument, budgeted at AED 60 million. Once completed, this bridge will provide a streamlined route for vehicles moving from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road while assisting drivers journeying from Sheikh Khalifa Street towards Mleiha Road, minimizing extended detours. Its contemporary design is anticipated to enhance the aesthetic appeal of one of the city's key landmarks.
These developments reflect Sharjah's ongoing commitment to bolstering its infrastructure amidst rapid expansion. The forthcoming upgrades are set to relieve traffic congestion, improve safety standards, and reduce travel times across major districts, ensuring a more efficient commute for both residents and visitors.
