Sharjah Leader Supports Partnership with Beirut Arabic Language Academy

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, reaffirmed his commitment to the Arabic language during a meeting with the founders of the Arabic Language Academy (ALA) in Beirut. This meeting, held on Sunday at the Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre in University City, Sharjah, symbolizes a step forward in enhancing cultural and linguistic collaboration between Sharjah and Lebanon.

Heading the Lebanese delegation were Dr Emile Badi Yaqub and His Excellency Dr Rashid Darbas. His Highness extended a warm welcome to the members, congratulating them on the official launch of the Arabic Language Academy in Beirut. He viewed the partnership with Sharjah as a timely boost for the Arabic-speaking community.

Sheikh Sultan emphasized Lebanon's rich history of contributing to Arabic culture and literature, highlighting its legacy of influential scholars, writers, and thinkers. He expressed optimism that the Beirut academy would uphold this rich heritage and actively promote the Arabic language.

His Highness also stressed the necessity of coordination between Arabic language academies across the Arab world, stating that such initiatives are crucial for unifying efforts in documentation, publication, research, and cultural exchanges while preserving the language's historical roots.

The discussions included the initiatives by the Sharjah Arabic Language Academy and its outreach programs across the Arab region, Europe, and Africa. Sheikh Sultan highlighted the importance of ongoing collaboration, joint initiatives, and the sharing of academic publications to engage younger generations with the Arabic language.

Members of the Lebanese delegation expressed their gratitude for Sharjah’s unwavering support for Arabic language endeavors. They recognized Sharjah’s significant contributions to projects benefiting the language, literature, and arts, particularly citing the Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language as a major achievement with regional and global relevance.

The meeting wrapped up with His Highness receiving a commemorative shield from the Lebanese academy alongside several academic publications, and he engaged in photographs with the delegation, symbolizing a commitment to cultural cooperation.
