Saudi Arabia has underscored the critical importance of safeguarding the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that any disruption in this essential waterway could have significant ramifications for global trade and energy stability.
During a joint press briefing convened by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations alongside the United States, Dr. Abdulaziz Alwasil, the Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative at the United Nations, pointed out the strategic significance of the Strait of Hormuz in facilitating international commerce and maintaining consistent energy supplies.
As reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Alwasil indicated that threats to navigation within the strait could have a direct influence on global markets, international supply chains, and the seamless transportation of goods worldwide.
He warned that any disruption might lead to severe humanitarian and economic repercussions, resulting in delays for vital goods, medical resources, and humanitarian assistance.
Alwasil stressed the importance of ensuring maritime security and maintaining the uninterrupted flow of international trade in accordance with international law. He urged for greater global collaboration to mitigate tensions in the area and avert any escalation that might threaten both regional and worldwide peace.
This warning emerged during talks regarding a draft resolution aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation and maritime security in global waters.
