A judge has ruled that the criminal sexual conduct case against former NHL player Ryan Kesler will go to trial. During a preliminary examination, the court found that the prosecution had established probable cause.

Kesler, 41, faces two misdemeanor charges of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree. He has pleaded not guilty. The alleged incidents reportedly took place on January 1 in Orchard Lake, Michigan.

Kesler, originally from Livonia, Michigan, played for the Vancouver Canucks from 2003 to 2014 before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks, where he played until retiring in 2019. He also represented the United States in the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2011 as the NHL’s top defensive forward, and helped lead Vancouver to the Stanley Cup Final that year.
