Russia Threatens More Strikes On Kyiv Urges Foreigners To Leave

Post by : Sophia Matthew

Russia has warned that it plans to launch more large-scale strikes on Kyiv and has urged foreign citizens and diplomats to leave the Ukrainian capital as soon as possible. The warning came after Moscow accused Ukraine of carrying out attacks on civilian targets in Russian-controlled territory, leading to a sharp rise in tensions between the two countries.

According to statements released by Russia’s Foreign Ministry, Moscow is preparing what it described as “systematic strikes” against military infrastructure and decision-making centers in Kyiv. Russian officials claimed the planned attacks would target facilities connected to Ukraine’s armed forces, drone production sites, and command centers involved in military operations.

The warning followed one of the heaviest Russian attacks on Kyiv in recent months. Over the weekend, Russia reportedly launched dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones toward the Ukrainian capital and surrounding regions. Ukrainian officials said residential buildings, schools, markets, and infrastructure sites were damaged during the strikes, while several civilians were killed and many others were injured.

Russia stated that the planned escalation is a response to a Ukrainian strike in the Russian-controlled Luhansk region. Moscow claimed the attack hit a student dormitory and caused civilian deaths. Ukrainian authorities denied deliberately targeting civilians and said their forces struck a military-related target linked to Russian drone operations.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also reportedly informed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about Moscow’s plans during a phone call. According to Russian officials, Lavrov advised foreign diplomats and citizens to evacuate Kyiv before the new strikes begin. The warning has increased concerns about the possibility of another major escalation in the war.

Ukraine strongly criticized Russia’s statement and described it as intimidation and political pressure. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha accused Moscow of trying to spread fear among civilians and foreign governments. Ukrainian officials said Russia continues using missile attacks to damage infrastructure and pressure the population during the ongoing conflict.

International reactions have also grown stronger after reports that Russia recently used Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missiles during attacks on Kyiv. The missiles are capable of carrying nuclear warheads, although there is no indication that nuclear weapons were involved in the latest strikes. European leaders and NATO officials have condemned the attacks and warned against further escalation.

Despite the threats, several foreign missions and international organizations in Kyiv said they would continue operating in the city. European Union representatives stated that diplomatic support for Ukraine remains unchanged. However, some countries are closely monitoring the security situation and reviewing travel advisories for their citizens in Ukraine.

The latest developments come as peace efforts between Russia and Ukraine remain stalled. Fighting continues across several regions, and both sides have intensified drone and missile attacks in recent weeks. Military analysts say Russia’s latest warning suggests Moscow could be preparing for a broader campaign targeting Kyiv’s military and government infrastructure in the coming days.
