Tragic Death of Indian Seafarer Prompts Response from Dubai Consulate

In a somber announcement, the Consulate General of India in Dubai conveyed its condolences following the tragic loss of an Indian crew member who died during an at-sea incident.

Through an official update on X (formerly Twitter), the consulate confirmed it is working with the ship's owner and diligently seeking further information about the events involved. The consulate committed to providing necessary assistance as a top priority.

According to the consulate, “We are deeply saddened to report the unfortunate death of an Indian crew member at sea. Our team is in close contact with the ship owner, seeking more information, and we assure you that we will provide all possible support in this matter. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family.”

Details regarding the deceased’s identity and specific circumstances of the incident are still pending.

In related news, on May 6, Opesh Kumar Sharma, Director of Shipping at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, affirmed that all Indian seafarers in the area are safe, reporting no incidents since May 4.

He also highlighted that the government has facilitated the safe return of over 2,999 Indian seafarers from various Gulf locations, including 23 in the past two days.

Sharma noted that the Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions, and maritime stakeholders to prioritize the safety and welfare of Indian seafarers, alongside ensuring seamless maritime operations.

Additionally, it was confirmed that port operations in India continue without disruption, with no congestion to report.

Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working with relevant agencies to provide timely assistance and support.
