Despite significant regional hurdles, including transport complications and logistical disruptions, the State of Qatar has intensified its commitment to global humanitarian aid.
Organizations such as Qatar Charity and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) have successfully executed their planned Ramadan relief initiatives. Their achievements stem from effective coordination and early preparations, enabling assistance to reach individuals in need without major setbacks.
Eng. Ibrahim bin Hashim Al Sada, Secretary-General of QRCS, noted that their established partnerships and experienced teams were pivotal in maintaining operations even in challenging environments. He revealed that pre-Ramadan preparations ensured that most aid projects continued as planned in various countries.
Notably, QRCS upheld vital initiatives, such as providing iftar meals in Lebanon and distributing Eid clothing to Syrian and Palestinian refugees in Jordan, although some medical aid shipments to Sudan experienced delays due to the ongoing situation.
He pointed out that the delivery of aid to Gaza faced hurdles from border closures and restrictions, causing a slowdown in supplies and leaving some needs inadequately addressed.
Currently, QRCS is active in 12 countries, adapting to changing ground conditions as they operate in Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Niger, successfully navigating a largely stable operational framework amidst difficulties.
In Lebanon, deteriorating humanitarian conditions prompted ongoing modifications to aid programs to more effectively address immediate needs.
Al Sada emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among different organizations, including Qatar Charity, describing this unified strategy as integral in delivering assistance and hope to communities globally.
On a related note, Qatar Charity's CEO, Yousef bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, reported that their Ramadan initiative, "Good Starts With You," was implemented in 43 nations, reaching approximately 3.85 million individuals.
The campaign encompassed iftar meals, zakat al-fitr, Eid clothing, and a range of development initiatives including housing, water supply systems, mosque construction, and economic aid, specifically targeting displaced and refugee communities such as the Rohingya, Somali, Afghan, and Yemeni populations.
Additionally, medical initiatives, like heart surgeries for children and eye treatments, were executed during Ramadan.
Al Kuwari attributed the success of these programs to meticulous advance planning, solid field presence, and establishing local collaborations. He also underscored the importance of utilizing local markets to support host economies.
Within Qatar, adjustments were made to programs by directly delivering iftar meals to workers rather than hosting large gatherings. A smart electronic voucher system was also introduced to assist low-income families discreetly.
Qatar Charity has initiated a more efficient operational framework, allowing projects to commence as soon as funding is secured, which includes pre-defined project sites and early beneficiary selection processes.
Nonetheless, Al Kuwari cautioned that ongoing regional conflicts may escalate costs due to supply issues, prompting the organization to devise emergency plans, bolster logistics, and enhance partnerships for future initiatives.
He also drew attention to the situation in Lebanon, where escalating tensions since March 2026 have triggered significant displacement and urgent humanitarian requirements. In response, Qatar Charity unveiled a $2.35 million emergency plan covering food aid, shelter assistance, water and sanitation services, medical supplies, and solar energy solutions for essential facilities from March to May 2026.
Concluding, Al Kuwari expressed Qatar Charity's vigilance on global developments, confirming their readiness to amplify efforts to provide dignified and effective support to those in need.
