In a startling development, a court in Kota Kinabalu has mandated a mental health evaluation for 71-year-old Piluta Samad, accused of the horrific murder and dismemberment of his ex-fiancée. This directive forms part of ongoing judicial proceedings that have deeply unsettled the local population.
Following concerns raised by his defence regarding his erratic behavior and statements, the court has ordered a 30-day psychological observation at Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang. The magistrate approved this action based on the request from the accused's legal team.
The defence emphasized the necessity for a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to assess Piluta’s mental health. Additionally, the court has left the door open for another 30-day extension for assessment, should that be required.
Despite the opposition from the prosecution, which highlighted pending critical reports such as a chemist’s evaluation and post-mortem data, these findings are expected to be essential as the investigation progresses.
Piluta Samad stands accused of murdering his 44-year-old ex-fiancée back in February 2026 at a home in Kampung Sri Kenangan, a case that attracted significant media attention after parts of the victim's remains were found in multiple locations.
This charge falls under Section 302 of Malaysia’s Penal Code, a provision associated with severe penalties, including potential death sentences or lengthy incarceration. In instances of conviction without capital punishment, caning may also be imposed.
The next court hearing is set for May 15, 2026, while the accused is detained in custody. Proceeding through the legal channels, the case is anticipated to be transferred to the High Court for formal plea actions.
