Dubai is reinforcing its status as an international business center with an increasing number of US firms setting up their regional bases in the emirate's integrated economic zones. Recent insights from Dr. Juma Al Matrooshi, Assistant Executive Chairman of Investments and Partnerships at the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), reveal a significant rise in American businesses across various sectors.
Currently, more than 112 US companies operate within DIEZ, comprising around 3.4% of the total registered enterprises. These enterprises stretch across diverse industries such as aviation, logistics, specialized consulting, technology, and future-critical sectors. Renowned firms like Boeing, FedEx, Abbott, DHL, and Coca-Cola have selected DIEZ’s economic zones—Dubai Airport Free Zone, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai CommerCity—as their regional headquarters.
Dr. Al Matrooshi emphasized that the authority continually enhances its services for businesses, investors, and entrepreneurs. By refining operational processes and providing a variety of economic opportunities, DIEZ fosters a conducive environment for business, while bolstering Dubai’s competitiveness on a global stage. Integration among the free zones is a strategic focus, aimed at developing a unified ecosystem that benefits all sectors.
Economic and free zones play a vital role in Dubai’s non-oil economy, accounting for nearly 67% of the emirate’s total foreign direct investment—around AED 298 billion in 2023, according to estimates from Dubai Data and Statistics. This emphasizes the importance of free zones in promoting sustainable development, innovation, and the implementation of advanced technologies.
Dr. Al Matrooshi further noted that DIEZ consistently rolls out initiatives and programs intended to provide investment incentives, attract high-value partnerships, and enhance the overall business landscape. He pointed out that US companies remain crucial to the free zones’ ecosystem, showcasing Dubai’s capacity to attract global investments even amidst economic fluctuations.
