Christopher Nolan is set to return with a project he has contemplated for over twenty years. His forthcoming film, The Odyssey, is the long-anticipated adaptation of Homer’s classic, a venture rooted in his early filmmaking journey.

Years back, Warner Bros. initially enlisted Nolan to helm Troy when Wolfgang Petersen took a hiatus. “I was originally signed on to direct Troy. Wolfgang had developed it; when the studio pivoted from Batman Vs Superman, he sought it back,” Nolan recounted.

Nolan was immediately fascinated by the narrative, particularly the iconic imagery of the Trojan horse. However, with Petersen's return, Warner Bros. redirected him to Batman Begins, which, initially perceived as a “consolation prize,” morphed into a transformative trilogy that reshaped superhero cinema.

Petersen’s Troy, released in 2004, featured stars like Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, and Diane Kruger. Though the film faced mixed reviews, it grossed nearly $500 million globally. Simultaneously, Nolan’s Batman Begins marked a pivotal moment for Warner Bros., solidifying his status as a pioneering director.

Now, with The Odyssey, Nolan revisits Homer, presenting a stellar cast that includes Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus, alongside Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and others. He expressed a strong attraction to the project, believing it offers the chance to infuse “weight and credibility” to a grand tale on Hollywood's vast canvas.

Universal Pictures has officially slated The Odyssey to premiere on July 17, 2026, promising a breathtaking cinematic experience that marries epic storytelling with Nolan’s distinctive visual approach.
