NASA has unveiled a remarkable image of the Moon taken by the crew of Artemis II during their groundbreaking mission. This image showcases the Orientale Basin at the lunar edge, providing a rare and detailed view of this feature.

The Artemis II team consists of four astronauts—Jeremy Hansen, Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, and Christina Koch—who are on board the Orion spacecraft. This signifies humanity's first return to Moon missions since Apollo 17.

The mission's objectives include documenting the Moon’s far side and evaluating deep-space travel capabilities. Artemis II will undertake a journey exceeding 400,000 kilometers from Earth, aiming to set new milestones for human space travel before circling back around the Moon without a landing.

Scheduled to last nearly 10 days, the mission will conclude with a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean. NASA envisions this mission as a precursor to future lunar landings, aspiring to position astronauts near the Moon’s south pole by 2028.
