Lionel Messi, the captain of Inter Miami, encountered a potential left thigh injury during his team's exhilarating 6-4 triumph over the Philadelphia Union on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred in the 70th minute when Messi showed visible discomfort after executing a free kick. The Argentine superstar was seen gripping the upper section of his left thigh and requested to be substituted.

He made way for Mateo Silvetti in the 73rd minute, walking off the field without assistance before heading to the locker room. An official update regarding the injury's severity is still pending.

At 38 years old, Messi has been exceptional this season for Inter Miami CF, leading the MLS with 20 goal contributions, which include 12 goals and eight assists over 14 matches.

Since his arrival at Inter Miami, Messi has amassed 107 goal contributions—62 goals and 45 assists—in 67 games.

This injury occurs at a critical period as Major League Soccer is set for a six-week recess due to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19.

Messi is anticipated to represent Argentina in the tournament, although the final squad has yet to be confirmed.

Argentina will kick off their Group J journey against Algeria on June 16 in Kansas City. Before the World Cup, Argentina has friendly matches lined up with Honduras on June 6 and Iceland on June 9.
