US First Lady Melania Trump has unveiled the White House Christmas decorations for 2025, embracing the festive theme “Home is Where the Heart Is.” While the First Lady spends much of her time in New York and Florida, she emphasized that home is about the warmth and comfort one carries within, rather than just physical space.
This year’s display is more compact than usual due to the partial demolition of the East Wing, which is being transformed into a $300 million new ballroom commissioned by President Donald Trump. Despite the reduced space, the decorations are spectacular and feature more than 50 Christmas trees, thousands of decorative butterflies, a giant gingerbread replica of the White House, and a striking Lego portrait of the 79-year-old president.
The centerpiece of the holiday display is an 18-foot concolor fir from Michigan, decorated with gold stars honoring the families of fallen US service members. Additional touches include red, white, and blue accents to mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence, alongside specially designed baubles promoting Melania’s “Be Best” initiative for children’s education and wellness.
The decorations are housed in the main mansion at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue this year, with the East Wing no longer available for traditional elaborate displays. Guests visiting the White House for seasonal events can now admire the festive decor throughout the mansion’s halls and rooms.
President Trump, meanwhile, injected humor into the celebrations, remarking at a White House Christmas party, “We have a little more than three years left, and three years for Trump is an eternity.” Trump’s second term continues until 2029, giving the First Family more time to enjoy their holiday traditions in the iconic residence.
This year’s White House Christmas combines patriotic symbolism, personal touches from the First Lady, and nods to US history, making it a memorable festive season for visitors and Americans nationwide.
