In a thrilling Game 5, Jaden McDaniels was met with boos as the Denver Nuggets took down the Minnesota Timberwolves 125-113 in their first-round playoff matchup.
Lead by Nikola Jokic, Denver bounced back vigorously after McDaniels' recent remarks. Despite the defeat, Minnesota leads the series 3-2, with an important Game 6 approaching in their home arena.
McDaniels has emerged as a significant player in this series, mentioning that the charged atmosphere invigorates him. “I thrive in this environment. The animosity motivates me,” he expressed after the match.
Tensions have been high throughout this series, especially after McDaniels criticized the Nuggets’ defense following Minnesota's win in Game 2. This rivalry intensified further when McDaniels made a layup late in a previous game, sparking an altercation with Jokic that resulted in fines and ejections but spared any suspensions.
In Game 5, McDaniels tallied 13 points with a shooting line of 5-of-11 over 27 minutes despite facing four turnovers. The Timberwolves faced ball control issues, finishing with 25 turnovers while adapting to the injuries of Donte DiVincenzo and Anthony Edwards.
The game also featured on-court confrontations as McDaniels clashed briefly with Jonas Valanciunas in the fourth. Christian Braun earned a technical foul for taunting McDaniels post-dunk celebration.
Unfazed by the crowd’s intense reactions, McDaniels kept the team’s goal in sight: securing a win in Game 6 to avert a decisive Game 7.
Looking ahead, Minnesota aims to clinch victory in Game 6 on their home turf.
