Tamil television actress Manya Anand has bravely shared her unsettling encounter within the film industry, alleging that Dhanush’s manager, Sreyas, sought to exploit her via the casting couch method. In a revealing interview, Manya indicated that Sreyas reached out concerning a new film but quickly crossed the line with an inappropriate remark.
Manya recounted that Sreyas insinuated a quid pro quo by stating, “There is commitment (adjustment),” which implied she would need to offer more than just her skills to secure the role. She challenged him directly, asking, “What commitment? Why should I give commitment?” firmly stating her refusal to give in to unethical requests.
Even after her clear rejection, she claims that Sreyas continued to press her, asking, “You will not comply even if it’s Dhanush sir?” and reached out several times. Manya described how Sreyas even sent her directions to Dhanush’s production company, Wunderbar Films, along with the project script. She made it clear that she had no intention of even perusing the script.
Manya shed light on a larger issue, stating, “We’re artists. We are meant to work professionally. Do not expect anything else in return. If we yield to these pressures, it changes who we are. I believe it’s vital for people to recognize this harmful trend and address it.”
Compounding the problem, she disclosed that another manager had approached her with similar inappropriate requests for the same project, highlighting a concerning pattern within the industry. Manya stressed that performers should never be compelled into compromising situations masked as job opportunities.
