Lisa Mishra Makes A Triumphant Return to Theatre After 15 Years

After an extensive musical career and her recent on-screen debut in Call Me Bae, followed by The Royals this year, Lisa Mishra is back where her heart truly lies—on stage. She graced the Prithvi Theatre Festival with a performance that signifies her return to theatre after 15 years, under the direction of Akarsh Khurana.

Lisa expresses, “It feels a bit overwhelming because it’s an immense commitment.” She adds, “While the excitement is palpable, a tinge of fear accompanies it. It's the ultimate challenge—my paths as an actor and a musician are converging.”

Despite stepping away from stage acting, Lisa feels her musical experiences have laid a solid groundwork for this performance art. “Being on stage feels instinctive to me as a musician. Unlike film, where multiple takes are possible, theatre offers no reprieve. Yet, I thrive in live performances, and my musical journey has equipped me for this moment.”

Reflecting on the essence of theatre, she notes, “I’ve missed the thrill of engaging in a lengthy live performance. My concerts could stretch to 90 minutes, comprised of songs I've prepared for ages. However, performing a play with fresh music and flawless delivery is what I longed for.”

Returning to musical theatre adds a fresh layer of expectations for Lisa, who states, “Having solidified my presence as an actor, the pressure to deliver is significantly heightened this time around.”

When considering her career trajectory, Lisa describes it as a “guide for anyone dedicated to hard work.” She remarks, “Contrary to popular belief, the journey isn’t a cakewalk after achieving your initial success. In a competitive city like Mumbai, one must constantly reinvent themselves and hunt for opportunities, as nothing comes easily.”

Looking ahead, Lisa is set to commence filming for Call Me Bae Season 2 shortly. “We just completed our table read with the entire cast, and it went splendidly. Season two promises to be exceptional—it’s very well-crafted, and the character developments are fantastic,” she shares. Additionally, an update on The Royals Season 2 reveals it’s in the early development phases: “Pre-production has started, though we are yet to determine our character arcs.”
