Beloved Bollywood Star Kamini Kaushal Passes Away at 98

Beloved Bollywood star Kamini Kaushal, whose illustrious career extended over seventy years, has passed away at the age of 98 in her Mumbai home on Thursday evening. A family friend confirmed her passing.

Sajan Narain, a family associate, told the media, “She passed away late Thursday night at her Mumbai residence. She was set to turn 99 next February.” Details regarding the cause of death are yet to be revealed, and the family has not made an official statement.

Regarded as one of the finest talents in Indian cinema's history, Kamini Kaushal was born in Lahore to Prof. Shiv Ram Kashyap, a distinguished botanist from the University of Punjab, fondly known as the Father of Indian Bryology.

Her acting career launched with Chetan Anand's Neecha Nagar (1946), a film that won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival and received accolades at the Montreal Film Festival, establishing Kamini as a promising newcomer in the industry.

During the late 1940s and 1950s, she appeared in several hit films, such as Aag, Shaheed, Nadiya Ke Paar, and Ziddi, making her one of the most sought-after actresses of her time. Over her career, she acted alongside cinema legends like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, and Raj Kapoor, gaining both critical and popular approval.

Shifting towards character roles in 1963, her impressive performances in films such as Do Raaste, Prem Nagar, and Maha Chor continued to resonate with audiences. Even in her later years, she remained a prominent figure, featuring in blockbuster hits like Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express and Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh, with her last appearance being a cameo in Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha.
