Telugu actress and producer Lakshmi Manchu has bravely unveiled a distressing incident from her youth, recounting how she was inappropriately touched at the age of 15 during her schooling. This deeply personal event has profoundly impacted her psyche, leaving a permanent mark on her impressionable youth.

In a heartfelt discussion, Lakshmi expressed that while she grew up in comfort, often accompanied by a driver, bodyguard, and her mother, one day she found herself alone on public transportation to retrieve her exam hall tickets, where the shocking incident transpired.

“The violation I faced... what is this ugly feeling? I was just a kid at 15. I moved away without confrontation. When I shared it with my friends, they revealed similar experiences. I wasn’t the only one targeted; unfortunately, it happens widely,” Lakshmi reflected.

The actress also touched on the misconceptions surrounding individuals from affluent families, stating, “People often expect us to stay quiet in the face of wrongdoing, assuming we won’t speak out. For example, if a theft occurs at my home, I might feel restrained from reporting it, raised to handle it privately.”

Lakshmi acknowledged the emotional resonance the MeToo movement had on her, revealing how she broke down in tears upon reading accounts shared by the Women’s Commission, recognizing that many echoed her own experiences.

Kicking off her acting journey in the American television series Las Vegas in a minor role, Lakshmi has made appearances in other popular shows like Desperate Housewives and Late Nights with My Lover, alongside featured roles in major brand commercials.

As the daughter of Telugu cinema icon Mohan Babu, she has garnered accolades like two Filmfare Awards South and two Nandi Awards. Recently, she’s made waves on the reality series The Traitors, extending her influence within the entertainment landscape.

Through her poignant narrative, Lakshmi Manchu sheds light on the widespread issue of harassment, emphasizing the necessity for dialogue around such experiences, even for those in privileged positions.
