Kriti Sanon recently appeared in Aanand L. Rai’s romantic drama, Tere Ishk Mein, alongside Dhanush, which premiered in theaters last month. The film has garnered positive feedback, with audiences praising the performances of both leads. Kriti stars as Mukti Beniwal, a character that has sparked considerable conversation.
In a recent interview, Kriti expressed that her initial impression of Mukti was far from favorable. After reading the script, she perceived the character as wholly negative and selfish, leading her to feel uneasy. She reached out to director Aanand L. Rai, sharing her concerns about the role and her anxiety regarding portraying it.
However, Kriti noted that the director had a different perspective on Mukti. According to her, Aanand envisioned layers of vulnerability and emotional depth that were not evident in the script. With every discussion they had about the scenes, she came to realize his interpretation of the character was much more profound than her initial understanding.
Kriti confessed that this particular role was the only one she approached differently, without the usual preparatory work. She revealed that she discovered Mukti's character on set, gradually acknowledging her flaws and finding it refreshing to portray someone both imperfect and emotionally intricate.
After the film's release, some viewers labeled Mukti as “toxic” or a “red flag.” In response, Kriti emphasized the importance of such discussions, stating that human behavior can rarely be classified as right or wrong. She believes characters should be evaluated with empathy rather than harsh labels.
