The Recording Academy has announced the nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, revealing a fiercely competitive lineup. At the forefront is Kendrick Lamar, boasting nine nominations, equaling his count from last year. Hot on his heels is Lady Gaga, who garnered seven nominations, placing both artists back in the spotlight for this year's ceremonies.
Both Lamar’s album GNX and Gaga’s MAYHEM are vying for the coveted Album of the Year award. Despite numerous nominations in this category before, neither artist has clinched a win to date, adding to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming event. The awards are set to take place in Los Angeles on February 1.
Experts believe Lamar is favored this year, as his nominations span categories including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. This broad recognition signals strong backing from voting members of the Recording Academy. As noted by Billboard Awards editor Paul Grein, Kendrick Lamar could potentially make history as the first solo male rap artist to secure the Album of the Year title. However, he acknowledges that Lady Gaga is a strong competitor, always a contender for the top honors.
Other notable artists making an impression this year include Sabrina Carpenter and Bad Bunny, who both earned six nominations. Carpenter's album Man’s Best Friend has significantly raised her profile, solidifying her role in the mainstream pop scene. Meanwhile, Puerto Rican icon Bad Bunny has also gained traction in major Grammy categories including Album, Record, and Song of the Year, and he is set to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show next year, furthering his success.
Interestingly, Taylor Swift, who has won Album of the Year four times, is not included in this year’s nominations. Her recent work, The Life of a Showgirl, didn’t meet the eligibility criteria for this awards cycle and will contend in the next.
This year’s voting pool will consist of around 15,000 Recording Academy members. The nominees encompass a wide array of genres and styles, showcasing the ongoing transformation of the music industry.
