A new wave of controversy surrounds the Gaza crisis as Israel stops another humanitarian flotilla aiming to provide assistance to the beleaguered Gaza Strip. This incident occurred in international waters, close to Greece, sparking outrage among global observers and humanitarian organizations.

The flotilla, spearheaded by the Global Sumud Flotilla, set sail earlier this month from Barcelona, Spain, carrying crucial humanitarian supplies for Palestinians who face significant hardships due to enduring restrictions and resource limitations.

Reportedly, Israeli naval forces captured the vessels hundreds of miles away from Gaza, in the Mediterranean Sea, near Crete. The organizers condemned this action as unlawful, arguing it contravenes international laws governing free passage in open waters.

They emphasized that no nation holds authority to exert control over international maritime routes. The recent interception is viewed as an escalation in border control, potentially establishing a worrying precedent for future maritime engagements.

Conversely, Israeli officials assert the necessity of their actions. Danny Danon, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, remarked that the flotilla was intercepted prior to entering Israeli secured territories, stating that the military acted with due diligence and care.
