Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and produced by Dharma Productions, this film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor. The project is led by notable figures including Karan Johar and Adar Poonawalla, with Martin Scorsese and Pravin Khairnar as executive producers. Co-producers include Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier.
The narrative follows childhood friends Shoaib (Khatter) and Chandan (Jethwa), united by their aspiration to join the police force. Janhvi Kapoor’s role adds emotional depth as the film explores the complexities of friendship, duty, and the tribulations faced by the youth in India.
Neeraj Ghaywan expressed excitement about the film's Netflix release following its successful festival appearances. He portrays Homebound as a narrative rooted in true events, emphasizing the importance of connection and empathy as forms of subtle resistance.
Karan Johar described the film as intimate and multifaceted, highlighting his delight that it will reach audiences worldwide on the streaming service.
The film garnered international acclaim during its festival journey, making its debut in the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival 2025, followed by a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it earned the title of Second Runner-Up for the International Audience Choice Award.
