Hanoi recently hosted the National Final Round of Green STEM 2026, featuring 33 teams representing 19 schools across Vietnam. This event has become one of the key educational gatherings promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning while inspiring innovation, creativity, and environmentally responsible thinking among young minds.

Organized by the Institute of Educational Sciences and Skills Development affiliated with the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges, the goal was to enhance practical STEM education and prepare students for the fast-paced digital economy. Experts assert that events like Green STEM play a pivotal role in nurturing future talent in sectors such as artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, biotechnology, and environmental tech.

As per the latest statistics from Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training, over 218,000 students had enrolled in STEM-related disciplines by 2024, representing about 36% of total university enrollments. This rising interest showcases Vietnam’s ambition to cultivate a highly skilled workforce capable of competing in global markets.

During the event, former Minister of Science and Technology Dr. Nguyen Quan emphasized the growing necessity of digital skills and scientific reasoning in education from an early age. He advocated for STEM education starting in primary school to equip children with problem-solving capabilities, innovative spirit, and technological insight.

The Green STEM 2026 competition was structured uniquely, moving away from conventional academic contests. It encouraged participants to tackle tangible issues surrounding green energy, environmental conservation, and sustainable development, evaluating them not just on their end products, but also their creativity, teamwork, analytical thinking, and the entire solution development process.

Students presented remarkable projects that featured automation systems, eco-friendly engineering strategies, renewable energy innovations, and smart programming technologies. Many showcased outstanding scientific reasoning and collaborative efforts, providing solutions geared towards environmental sustainability and technological progress.

A standout feature of Green STEM 2026 was its collaboration with the international World GreenMech Contest. Exceptional teams from Vietnam will have opportunities to engage in global STEM competitions, gaining valuable international experience. Organizers believe this path will nurture students’ scientific research and innovative capacities.

Education specialists state that Green STEM 2026 marks a significant move towards modernizing Vietnam’s educational framework, encouraging youth to embrace creativity, science, and innovation. The competition underlined the nation’s commitment to equipping students for future careers in digital transformation, green technology, and sustainable economic growth.
