Mark your calendars, as a spectacular event known as a “Blue Moon” will illuminate the skies of the UAE and the globe on May 31.
The full moon will start to emerge on the evening of May 30, with its peak brightness at 3:45 AM on May 31. Astronomers recommend catching the best views just before dawn when the moon dips low on the western horizon. However, the ideal visual experience is anticipated earlier on May 30, when the moon is fully shining.
It’s important to note that despite the name, the Blue Moon won’t actually appear in blue. The term signifies the rarity of this occurrence rather than its color.
There are two classifications of Blue Moons. The first, a “monthly Blue Moon,” refers to the second full moon within a solitary calendar month. The other, a “seasonal Blue Moon,” is the third full moon in a season featuring four full moons.
Such a unique lunar phenomenon occurs approximately seven times every 19 years. Following the May 2026 occurrence, additional Blue Moons are forecasted for December 31, 2028, September 30, 2031, July 31, 2034, and January 31, 2037.
