In a significant development for Dubai’s transport infrastructure, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has, in partnership with Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP), unveiled an expanded bridge approach to Terminal 1 at Dubai International Airport.
The recent expansion has increased the number of traffic lanes from three to four, allowing a rise in capacity from 4,200 vehicles per hour to 5,600 vehicles per hour—marking a 33% increase. This improvement is set to streamline traffic flow, shortening travel times and enhancing the experience for travelers and visitors alike.
The innovative bridge design incorporates steel box girders paired with a composite concrete deck, facilitating the project completion without necessitating traffic diversion on Airport Street or the use of temporary supports beneath the bridge. This approach has ensured a seamless flow of traffic while upholding stringent safety standards.
Additional enhancements include upgrades to road surfaces, utility services, landscaping, and new street lighting, all aimed at improving safety and visibility.
This initiative is a focal part of RTA’s continuous mission to refine Dubai’s road networks and improve connectivity to key facilities. It also plays a pivotal role in supporting the expansion of Dubai International Airport, renowned as the busiest airport globally for international travelers, ensuring that the infrastructure aligns with both current and future demands.
Both RTA and DAEP remain dedicated to advancing efficient transport systems, improving connectivity, and reinforcing Dubai’s status as a premier global aviation hub.
