In a significant boost to trade connectivity, DP World has launched a swift 36-hour maritime service between Dubai’s Mina Rashid Port and Iraq’s Umm Qasr Port. This new service presents a quicker, more dependable alternative to conventional land transport, facilitating seamless cargo movement between the UAE and Iraq.
This route is operated by DP World Express, featuring a specialized roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel that accommodates up to 145 accompanied trailers per journey. Tailored to carry non-containerised full trailer units, the service provides a direct logistics solution, minimizing delays and border complexities.
The vessel’s inaugural docking at Mina Rashid marked the launch of this important corridor. Following significant upgrades at Drydocks World, DP World Express is slated to commence full operations by December 2025. This launch comes as a response to the increasing demand for controlled transport options, enabling swift movement of goods across crucial trade routes.
Transitioning cargo movement from road to sea bolsters reliability and enhances planning for businesses operating in the UAE–Iraq trade corridor. The maritime service also facilitates further access to major commercial centers in Iraq and neighboring markets including Jordan and Syria, thereby enriching regional supply chains.
On its return trips, the vessel will transport Iraqi exports back to the UAE, fostering balanced trade and optimizing asset use. This circular flow is set to enhance logistics efficiency and stimulate economic activity on both ends.
In addition to speed and reliability, this service brings environmental benefits by cutting emissions typically associated with long-haul trucking. As part of DP World’s comprehensive logistics strategy, this route enhances maritime connectivity for non-containerised goods and aligns with cleaner transport goals.
