The wheat harvest is in full swing in Al Najd, part of the Dhofar Governorate, marking a pivotal moment in Oman’s agricultural calendar for the 2025–2026 season. This initiative underscores Oman’s commitment to enhancing food security and fostering local farming.
Supervised by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the process involves 51 farms cultivating wheat over a collective area of 6,408 acres, illustrating the region's agricultural expansion.
Officials highlighted that this initiative is in line with Oman’s strategy to boost food self-sufficiency and lessen import dependence. These actions showcase a commitment to sustainable agricultural practices.
Eng. Said bin Musallam Al Kathiri mentioned that various wheat varieties are being cultivated this season, including Najd 1, Najd 2, Australian wheat, as well as the Qurayat 110, 226, and 308, all well-suited to the local climate.
The harvesting season is projected to last around two months, facilitating a comprehensive collection and management of the crops across all participating farms.
To bolster productivity, the Ministry is equipping farmers with modern machinery and technical support. The harvested grains will be processed by Oman Mills Company, with total expected yields surpassing 8,000 tons across the Sultanate this season.
Officials affirm that the wheat cultivation initiative in Najd is vital for promoting sustainable agriculture, aiding Oman’s long-term vision for food security and economic growth.
