Tragic Car Blast at Delhi's Red Fort Claims Eight Lives; NIA Investigates Links to Kashmir Arrests

Post by : Raina Carter

On Monday evening, a devastating car explosion took place near Delhi's historic Red Fort, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and sparking a significant investigation into potential terror associations. Investigators are probing a possible connection to the recent apprehension of seven suspects in Indian-administered Kashmir and the confiscation of 2,900kg of explosives in Faridabad.

The blast occurred at 18:52 local time when a slow-moving vehicle halted at a crowded traffic signal and suddenly ignited. Witness footage reveals a charred white Hyundai i20 and other damaged vehicles, including cycle rickshaws and autorickshaws.

Officials have condemned the attack as “a gruesome act of terror by anti-national elements.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi described it as a “conspiracy,” promising that “all perpetrators will face justice.” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah echoed this sentiment, instructing officials to “track down every individual involved in this incident.”

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which oversees counter-terrorism efforts, has officially assumed control of the investigation. Analysts are scrutinizing numerous documents and assessing various angles, especially the possible ties between the Delhi explosion, recent arrests in Kashmir, and the explosives bust in Faridabad.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir police detained seven individuals, among them two medical professionals, highlighting a potential “white-collar terror network.” Authorities had previously confiscated weapons, including two automatic rifles and substantial bomb-making materials. Investigators are also exploring a man identified in trending photos as the suspected driver of the vehicle involved in the Delhi blast, though official confirmations are pending.

As investigations unfold, the Red Fort vicinity has been cordoned off. Authorities have not disclosed the ownership details of the car or the exact cause of the explosion yet. Unverified reports circulating in local media have contributed to public speculation, but police have reiterated that the inquiry is in progress and that every lead is under thorough review.

This unfortunate incident underscores the pressing concerns regarding urban safety and the complexities of countering coordinated terror efforts in India's capital. Authorities urge citizens to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities as the NIA conducts its comprehensive investigation.
