Dakota Johnson, renowned for her performance in Materialists, is preparing to take the helm for her first feature film, A Tree is Blue. The project, penned by and provisionally featuring her Cha Cha Real Smooth co-star Vanessa Burghardt, is scheduled to commence filming in Los Angeles next month.

Details about the plot remain undisclosed, yet the film has sparked considerable interest due to its impressive cast lineup. British artist Charli XCX and Hollywood icon Jessica Alba are currently in talks to come aboard the production.

Johnson previously made her directorial debut with the short film Loser Baby at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival and starred in Materialists alongside Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal. She is also set to feature in the adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Verity, partnering with Anne Hathaway.

Jessica Alba, who starred in and produced Netflix's Trigger Warning, will next be seen in the biography sports film Maserati: The Brothers, acting alongside Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, and Al Pacino. Meanwhile, Grammy-winning artist Charli XCX is not only producing but will also star in The Moment and is contributing music for the forthcoming Wuthering Heights adaptation, featuring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.

With a captivating mix of seasoned actors and emerging talents, Johnson’s inaugural directorial venture is poised to be one of the year's most eagerly awaited films.
