Abu Dhabi recently provided a remarkable opportunity for six budding UAE creatives as they participated in the production of Lionsgate’s worldwide success, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. These interns engaged in vital departments like camera, wardrobe, production, and location management, offering them a first-hand look at the dynamic realm of global filmmaking.
As the top-grossing film globally, amassing $147.5 million in revenue, the project granted interns a unique perspective on industry practices and professional workflows. Their experience allowed them to hone practical skills, assist in daily production operations, and grasp the intricacies of large film sets.
Since the inception of the program in 2020, the Creative Media Authority (CMA) and the Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC) have facilitated over 300 internships across more than 100 local and international projects. Notably, over half of the participants are Emiratis, with 19 having gained experience in various countries such as Romania, Egypt, Australia, Canada, Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, and the United States. More than 40 former interns are now making their mark in Abu Dhabi’s burgeoning film and media landscape, demonstrating the lasting effects of these initiatives.
Participants praised the transformative nature of the experience. Bushra Wasim, a production intern, mentioned, “This opportunity has expanded my understanding of the industry and helped clarify my future ambitions.” Costume intern Sheikha Al Junaibi remarked, “The real on-set exposure is priceless, from fittings to styling. I’m thankful to CMA for this experience.
Through endeavors like this, CMA and ADFC remain committed to fostering local talent, providing practical training and mentorship while aligning with the UAE’s aspirations for a vibrant cultural and creative sector.
