Vancouver’s famous B.C. Place Stadium, which has hosted concerts, Olympic ceremonies, and monster truck shows, is now turning into a cricket ground for something new and exciting — the Canada Super 60. This special cricket event starts Wednesday, October 9, and will run until October 13.
The Canada Super 60 will feature six men’s teams and two women’s teams made up of both international stars and Canadian players. The matches will be fast, fun, and full of big hits. Unlike regular cricket, where matches can last for hours, Super 60 games are short and action-packed — each team bats for 10 overs, which means 60 balls per side. A single match will finish in about 90 minutes, making it perfect for fans who love non-stop entertainment.
For many Canadian cricket players, this tournament is a dream come true. Yuvraj Samra, a 19-year-old Canadian cricketer, is thrilled to play for the Brampton Blitz team. “It feels amazing to play on such a big stage and show our talent,” he said. Samra made his international debut for Canada earlier this year and quickly impressed everyone with his powerful batting.
In June, Samra scored 50 runs from just 15 balls in a match against the Bahamas during the World Cup Qualifiers. Canada easily won that game, and Samra’s fast half-century broke the Canadian record for the quickest 50 runs — a record that had been set only a few days earlier by his teammate Harsh Thaker, who reached 50 runs in 16 balls. “You just have to see the ball and hit it,” Samra said with a smile, showing his confidence ahead of the Super 60 matches.
The six men’s teams competing are the Brampton Blitz, Mississauga Masters, Montreal Royal Tigers, Vancouver Kings, Toronto Sixers, and Whiterock Warriors. For the women’s competition, the teams are the Vancouver Thunderbirds and Toronto Sixers.
The tournament has attracted some of the biggest names in international cricket. Fans can look forward to watching stars like Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan from India, Shoaib Malik from Pakistan, Quinton de Kock from South Africa, and Alex Hales from England. They will join Canadian players such as Navneet Dhaliwal, Nicholas Kirton, Kaleem Sana, Shreyas Movva, and Dilpreet Bajwa.
To make the event even more entertaining, each day will also feature a live concert. Singers like Harrdy Sandhu, Jassie Gill, Mickey Singh, and Parmish Verma will perform, bringing music and energy to the crowd. Organizers say they want to make cricket feel like a full entertainment experience, mixing sports and concerts together — something North American fans will really enjoy.
One of the most interesting parts of this event is that the games will be played under the roof of B.C. Place. That means rain won’t stop the matches, which is a big advantage since cricket often gets delayed due to weather. This could even set an example for the future of indoor cricket around the world.
To prepare for the tournament, a special drop-in hybrid cricket pitch has been built inside the stadium. The pitch was made by Gabba Sporting Products from Australia, a company known for its world-class cricket surfaces. Organizers confirmed that the pitch meets all official cricket standards.
Tickets for the event are designed to be affordable for families. General admission costs $41 per day, and kids aged 15 and under can enter for free if they come with an adult. This makes it a perfect outing for families who want to enjoy both sports and music in one place.
Cricket lovers around the world will also be able to watch the matches live. The tournament will be shown on major sports channels and online platforms in India, Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, and North America, so fans everywhere can be part of the action.
Mike Burrow, one of the main organizers, said that only the lower bowl of B.C. Place will be open for spectators this year, as it’s the first time the event is being held. If the response is good, the plan is to expand it next year and make the Canada Super 60 an annual event.
“This is not just about cricket,” Burrow explained. “We want to create an experience where people can enjoy sports, music, and culture together.”
With its mix of thrilling cricket, live music, family-friendly prices, and world-class players, the Canada Super 60 is shaping up to be a major attraction in Vancouver. For Canadian cricket, this is more than just a tournament — it’s a moment to shine on the global stage and inspire the next generation of players.
