The new categories, if approved, will give preference to:
Senior managers: These are workers who lead teams and manage companies or organizations. The government believes that attracting senior managers can bring new ideas, improve productivity, and help companies grow.
Scientists and researchers: These workers help in research and development. Hiring more scientists can increase innovation, improve performance, and support Canada’s economic growth.

The government is asking the public for their opinion on these ideas. People can give feedback until September 3, 2025. After considering the feedback, Canada may introduce the new categories in 2026.

Workers in healthcare
Skilled workers in construction and trades to help with housing
Workers in education, STEM fields, and agriculture
The government is also thinking about whether Express Entry should focus more on workers who are already living in Canada or if it should continue recruiting workers from other countries.
