The Government of Canada has announced a new judicial appointment in the province of Quebec. Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, confirmed that Mireille Pélissier-Simard has been appointed as a judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the district of Québec.

The appointment is part of the federal judicial selection process introduced in 2016, which focuses on transparency, merit, and diversity. Officials stated that the process aims to ensure that judges appointed across Canada meet high standards of professionalism, integrity, and legal expertise.

Justice Pélissier-Simard replaces Justice D. Dumais, who was recently elevated to the position of Senior Associate Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Quebec. The transition is part of ongoing efforts to maintain strong leadership within the judiciary.

Before her appointment, Pélissier-Simard worked as a lawyer and family mediator at a law firm in Québec. She has more than two decades of experience, primarily in family law and human rights law. She earned her law degree from Laval University and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1997.

Throughout her career, she has contributed to legal education and professional development. She has been a frequent speaker at legal conferences and has authored several publications related to family law. In addition, she has played an active role in legal organizations and committees, including the Barreau de Québec and the Association des familialistes de Québec.

She has also been involved in academic work, teaching human rights law at Laval University. In recent years, she was commissioned by Quebec’s Ministry of Justice to prepare a report on child support systems, reflecting her expertise in family law matters.

Minister Fraser expressed confidence that Justice Pélissier-Simard will serve the people of Quebec with dedication and professionalism. He noted that her extensive experience and commitment to justice will be valuable assets to the court.

The appointment reflects Canada’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its judicial system by selecting experienced and qualified legal professionals to serve communities across the country.
