Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Reunite for The Mummy 4 in a Nostalgic Comeback

Moviegoers who grew up on the 1999 adventure classic will be thrilled: Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the beloved leads from the original The Mummy, are confirmed to return for The Mummy 4. The project is being steered by Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo behind Ready or Not (2019) and the recent Scream revival.

The 1999 film introduced Fraser as a swashbuckling explorer in 1930s Egypt who teams up with Weisz's archaeologist to confront a vengeful, supernatural priest. That hit not only launched a box-office franchise but also cemented Fraser and Weisz as prominent Hollywood talents. They later rejoined for The Mummy Returns (2001); Weisz was absent from the franchise's third entry, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008).

Universal later tried a fresh take with Tom Cruise in 2017, aiming to kick off a shared 'Dark Universe'. That attempt didn’t connect with audiences as hoped and stalled the studio's reboot ambitions.

Fraser's career has enjoyed a notable revival in recent years, capped by his Oscar-winning turn in The Whale (2022) and roles in films such as No Sudden Move (2021), Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, Brothers, and the Japanese title Rental Family, which debuted at TIFF.

Weisz has continued to build a distinguished résumé as well, with an Oscar win for The Constant Gardener and a BAFTA for The Favourite. Her more recent screen work includes Melina Vostokoff in Marvel’s Black Widow and the lead in Amazon Prime Video's series Dead Ringers (2023).

With both stars reuniting, The Mummy 4 promises a warmly anticipated return to the adventurous spirit that captured audiences decades ago, offering fans a chance to revisit the chemistry and thrills that defined the original.
