Alberta has started buying American alcohol and gambling machines again. This comes three months after Premier Danielle Smith said the province would stop buying these items from the U.S.

In March, Premier Smith made this announcement as a way to respond to heavy tariffs the U.S. put on Canadian goods and energy. The tariffs were ordered by then-President Donald Trump.

Service Alberta Minister Dale Nally said that resuming these purchases shows Alberta’s wish for fair and open trade with the United States. He explained that this decision will help prepare for better talks about the Canada-U.S.-Mexico trade agreement, which is set to be renewed soon.

Even though Alberta is buying more U.S. products again, Minister Nally asked people to keep supporting local Alberta producers.

In April, Minister Nally said the province paused its rules against buying from U.S. companies as a way to keep good relations with the U.S. government. Since March, the U.S. has stopped adding more tariffs, which has helped calm the situation.

This change in Alberta’s policy aims to encourage cooperation and stronger trade ties between Canada and the United States.
