In London, the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon 2024 was celebrated with a Bronze Award in the Leaders Sports Awards’ Fan Solution category, an international nod to the race’s fresh approach to engaging spectators and widening community involvement.
Staged by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with ADNOC, the marathon drew some 33,000 participants from around the globe. Elite competitors, casual runners and families took part across formats from the full marathon to community fun runs, turning the event into a lively, inclusive festival of movement.
Organisers placed a strong emphasis on sustainable and inventive practices this year: measures to cut single-use plastics, systems to assess the event’s carbon impact and greener operations were introduced alongside outreach efforts such as school programmes and interactive social campaigns that encouraged healthier lifestyles.
Talal Mustafa Al Hashemi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said he was proud of the recognition and credited the award to close collaboration between the council, ADNOC and partners — underlining their shared aim to deliver a first-rate sporting occasion rooted in community, excellence and sustainability.
The Bronze accolade in London reinforces the marathon’s role as a showcase for Abu Dhabi’s growing presence on the international sports stage, and highlights the UAE’s push to combine athletic ambition with innovation and public engagement.
