Celebrating Adibah Amin: A Tribute in Kuala Lumpur

A special tribute was held in Kuala Lumpur to honor the esteemed Malaysian journalist Adibah Amin, coinciding with the launch of her book, As I Was Passing (Legacy Edition). This gathering united members from the media, literary community, and her many admirers to pay homage to her profound impact on journalism and literature.

Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff officiated the ceremony, which was organized by Friends of Adibah Amin. Guests took the opportunity to reflect on her illustrious career and lasting impact in various areas, including literature, education, and the arts.

Khalilah Fadzilah Amin, Adibah’s sister, shared heartfelt news regarding her health, explaining that the veteran journalist has been bedridden for the last two years, resulting in her absence from the event. She thanked everyone for their support and conveyed her sister’s regrets for not being present.

The Legacy Edition showcases a collection of her most significant columns along with rare photographs and her autograph, aiming to preserve her remarkable work for future readers.

The event successfully raised around RM100,000, designated to assist Adibah Amin with her medical expenses. The impressive turnout and generous donations exemplified the heartfelt respect she continues to inspire.

Wong Chun Wai praised her as a legendary figure within Malaysian journalism, while A. Kadir Jasin highlighted the necessity of keeping her works alive for the new generation.

At 90 years old, Adibah Amin made history in 2023 as the first female National Journalist Laureate. Her esteemed career includes pivotal roles at major publications, creating a legacy that continues to inspire countless writers and journalists.
