The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has unveiled a significant enhancement in healthcare by expanding operational hours at various primary healthcare centres to provide services at all hours.
This initiative is designed to ensure that integrated, timely, and patient-focused care is available, thereby bolstering the healthcare system's capacity to address growing community needs effectively.
Enhancing Urgent Care and Access
Through this expansion, specifically chosen centres will now also offer urgent care services, providing expedited medical attention for non-critical health issues. This initiative aims to alleviate the demands on hospital emergency rooms while fostering improved patient experiences and outcomes.
Currently, the primary care centres in Mazyad and Sweihan function 24/7 with urgent care services already in place. Moreover, ten locations throughout Abu Dhabi and Al Ain—including Al Hili, Al Aamerah, Al Hayer, Neima, Al Quaa, Al Bateen, Al Zafaranah, Al Bahia, Madinat Mohammed Bin Zayed, and Baniyas—are now operating round-the-clock.
These centres are set to launch urgent care services by the second quarter of 2026, signifying a gradual improvement in geographic coverage and healthcare access.
Reinforcing Healthcare Systems
Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, stated that expanding 24-hour services is a crucial measure to foster a resilient and responsive healthcare framework. She underscored the importance of timely access to care as central to delivering quality healthcare and enhancing overall community health.
In parallel, Rashed Al Qubaisi, Group Chief Operating Officer of PureHealth, termed the initiative a pivotal achievement in enhancing patient-centric services and offering world-class healthcare solutions.
Inclusive and Preventive Health Services
The newly expanded primary care centres will continue to provide a comprehensive suite of services, including chronic disease management, vaccinations, mental health support, health education, and specialist referrals.
This initiative adheres to updated standards for urgent and emergency care, reinforcing DoH’s commitment to global best practices while ensuring the safety, quality, and sustainability of healthcare services throughout the emirate.
Advancing Community Health
By enhancing operation hours and integrating urgent care capabilities, Abu Dhabi is taking considerable strides to elevate healthcare access, bolster patient satisfaction, and support healthier communities across the region.
