The Zayed National Museum, representing the cultural heart of the United Arab Emirates, has unveiled its May Learning and Public Engagement Programme. This initiative invites all to delve into the UAE’s rich history and heritage through guided tours, interactive workshops, and engaging educational experiences.
One of the major highlights this month is the programme titled “A Dive into Pearling,” emphasizing the significance of pearl diving in UAE's culture. It features tailored tours and creative workshops through which guests can gain insights into the preparations of pearl divers, alongside the collaborative skills and traditions of coastal life.
On May 6, the museum will honor the 50th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces, a momentous occasion in the nation’s history. This special event will showcase performances, workshops, and tours that celebrate national unity and identity. A notable Al Azi performance by Hamad Al Amri is slated for 6 pm.
The museum is also gearing up for International Museum Day with a special programme from May 16 to 18, featuring creative workshops and live performances that emphasize the crucial role of museums in bridging cultures.
On the first day of Eid Al Adha, the museum will offer “The Joy of Eid” programme. Guests are invited to partake in cultural performances and family-friendly activities that showcase traditional Eid celebrations across the UAE.
Continuing its “From Museum to Community” initiative, the museum plans roadshows in Al Ain Region, Sharjah, and Ras Al Khaimah, fostering stronger ties with local communities and cultural experts.
Accessibility and inclusion remain key priorities for the museum. Its Access Programmes consist of the UAE History Tour conducted by Emirati specialists, storytelling tours in the “By Our Coasts” and “To Our Roots” galleries, along with specialized experiences like Quiet Morning for a tranquil environment. The Al Dhuha Hour: Traditional Tassels programme aims to engage senior citizens, including those with dementia, blending guided tours and creative workshops.
Throughout May, visitors are encouraged to participate in ongoing tours, such as A Walk Through Our History (available in Emirati Sign Language) and A Walk Among Our Wings. Family-centric workshops like Oasis Weaving, Build Your Museum, Create Your Calming Necklace, and Tree of Values will also be available.
Additionally, the museum features the Al Bahara on-site learning programme, offering hands-on sessions for both students and teachers that revolve around the UAE’s maritime heritage, including boat construction and pearling traditions.
