In the early morning of April 13, a fire erupted in a Housing Development Board (HDB) flat located in Yishun, Singapore, resulting in the evacuation of approximately 50 residents. The incident raised alarms regarding safety within residential areas.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force was notified of the fire around 3 am at a second-floor unit of Block 510B on Yishun Street 51. When firefighters arrived, the blaze had already been tackled by brave members of the public using a hose reel and fire extinguisher.
Authorities confirmed that as a safety precaution, about 50 residents were swiftly evacuated from the building. Police and SCDF personnel worked diligently to ensure that the situation was safely managed and that no further risks existed.
One individual was transported to Singapore General Hospital for treatment; although details concerning the person's condition remain undisclosed, officials indicated that medical assistance was provided.
Member of Parliament Lee Hui Ying commended the courage of local residents who aided in the danger response, specifically acknowledging two individuals, Furzan and Razmi, along with Razmi's brother, for helping to rescue a trapped individual.
Authorities thanked the public for their swift actions, which significantly mitigated the situation. The SCDF remarked that those who participated in the rescue efforts will receive recognition for their commendable public spirit.
Investigations are underway to determine the fire's cause as officials continue to examine the incident.
