The World Free Zones Organization (World FZO), with its base in Dubai, has officially announced that its 12th annual World Congress will occur from May 12 to 14, 2026, in Panama City. This significant gathering is set to attract more than 1,500 influential policymakers, business leaders, and executives from free zones worldwide.
The event will kick off with an opening address from José Raúl Mulino, President of Panama. He will be joined on stage by notable figures including Bernardo Arévalo de León and Luis Abinader, alongside over 20 ministers and senior government officials as well as representatives from leading international organizations.
Prominent global figures slated to attend include Gerd Müller from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Wamkele Mene from the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, Pedro Manuel Moreno of UN Trade and Development, Umberto de Pretto from the International Road Union, and Gilbert F. Houngbo from the International Labour Organization.
Focusing on the theme, “Free Zones in the New Global Operating Model: Challenges and Opportunities,” the Congress aims to explore the vital role of economic zones in enhancing global trade, investment, and sustainable development. Key discussion points will revolve around digital transformation, innovation, and sustainability.
Organized in conjunction with the Government of Panama, the event underscores the nation’s importance as a pivotal trade and logistics hub in the Americas.
Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Chairman of World FZO, expressed pride in the organization’s evolution into a major global platform for economic zones since its establishment in Dubai. He emphasized that the Congress is instrumental in molding trade strategies and fostering sustainable economic growth.
He further highlighted the necessity for innovation, digital transformation, and collaboration to enhance the competitiveness of free zones. According to him, the Congress will serve as a venue for policy discussions, sharing knowledge, and establishing partnerships.
The agenda includes ministerial roundtables, leadership sessions, and panels discussing regional cooperation, investment strategies, and green industrial growth. Special sessions will delve into cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, smart infrastructure, and digital trade systems.
Moreover, various initiatives including leadership programmes, investor meetings, and networking opportunities will be facilitated to encourage collaboration and investment.
