A Nutritionist’s Warm Guide to When to Enjoy Flaxseeds Each Day

Post by : Samuel Harris

Flaxseeds have quietly become a pantry favourite for many pursuing healthier routines. These tiny brown seeds pack omega-3 fatty acids, fibre and other nutrients that can benefit the body in several ways, but people often wonder when is the best time to include them in their day.

Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain, who focuses on public health and diabetes education, shared practical guidance in a short online video. She stressed that while flaxseeds are beneficial, they work best in the right amount and at mindful times. Her recommendation: only 1 to 2 tablespoons per day.

She outlined three ideal times to eat flaxseeds for noticeable benefit.

First, having flaxseeds on an empty stomach in the morning can be effective. Stirred into water and taken first thing, the seeds deliver healthy fats — notably omega-3 — which may help ease digestion, nurture the gut and support steadier blood sugar levels. Many people with bloating or sluggish digestion find this a helpful morning ritual.

Second, taking a spoon of flaxseeds before meals can curb appetite. The seeds’ fibre helps increase feelings of fullness, which may reduce portion sizes and prevent overeating — a simple tactic for those trying to manage weight or cut down on snacking.

Third, she recommended enjoying flaxseeds as a mid-day snack. Sprinkled over yogurt or mixed with fruit, they make a small, nourishing bite that supplies fibre, plant-based protein and supports gut-friendly probiotics. This combo can aid digestion and keep you satisfied between meals.

Flaxseeds are recognised for supporting heart health and digestion, and they may help with blood sugar control. Jain also warned that excessive intake can cause discomfort, and she reminded people to drink plenty of water so the fibre can do its job effectively.

Her tips are intended as helpful everyday guidance; she added that anyone with existing medical issues should consult their doctor before changing their diet.

Small but potent, flaxseeds — when timed and portioned sensibly — can be a gentle addition to a healthier lifestyle.
